Camping
I am so looking forward to camping (10/28 to 10/30). We're going to McCown Valley Park at Lake Whitney. We usually like to go to the Cedron Creek Campground, but they will be closed until Spring. Both McCown & Cedron Creek are both Army Corp of Engineers parks, which I prefer. COE parks tend to have less frills, which is cool with me, but they also seem to be more laid back. When I go camping (if you could call it that in my motorhome with DirecTV and a now a dishwasher), I like to relax. I can't relax at a park with too many rules, like most of the Texas State Parks. I go camping because when I'm there, I don't have to worry about projects or anything else. I just go and relax. I can't wait! How do you unwind & relax?

When I was in high school and went camping at Lake Whitney, all I would take was a bag of charcoal, a package of hot dogs and beer. That was roughing it.
Now we take the 35' motorhome complete with all the necessities (like a dishwasher, satellite TV, satellite radio, microwave, etc.) with the Mustang convertible in tow. It still doesn't have in-motion satellite TV or a washer/dryer combo, nor do we have a boat (yet), so I guess we are still "roughing" it a bit. :)
Lately to relax, I sit around and watch TV. Sometimes I drink beer or apple martini's. Other times go to the bar and people watch and dance.
Hope you have a great time camping? Is it just ya'll going, or did you invite other people to go with you.
Take some pic's and send them to me!
Relax? I wish I knew how. JK. I suppose watching TV w/the Captain is relaxing. It makes me feel good to be supportive of his interests (UFC, Miami Ink, Adam Corolla sp?) and we have great discussions. We like to pause, rewind, and really get into our shows.
As far as going places, I'm mostly a homebody (that and poor). I'd rather stay local and only be gone for a few hours. A trip shopping with a friend, an afternoon working on a project, things like that are good. If we have lots of time and not lots to do- I like cooking a new yummy meal.
I do like canoeing though. That time together w/the Cap in the nature is pretty awesome. I always feel like we're dating on those trips and he wins me over every time.
Krit, you really need to stop calling yourself poor. You may not have as much extra money as you would like, but you are far from being poor. Doing things like camping do not have to be expensive. There are many things to do that don't cost anymore than just staying at home. I know you feel like you are financially poor, but you are not, and you're rich in family & friends!
I am rich in many ways- friends, family and all that good stuff. I'm not down about my life but I do try to keep my interests and expectations within' our financial means.
I guess by poor I mean hopeless about making advances in our finances. Ha ha, is that better?
We're not poor compared to many you're right, and I try not to take that for granted BUT we are poor to the extent that there isn't alot of extra money for extras.
It seems like we don't do ALOT and I try to cut corners when I can but I have to say I do find myself frustrated with our finances nonetheless.
When I’m doing the bills (I monitor our situation at least 4 times a week)- it isn't like I'm saying WOW we need to do more, buy stuff, start collections, have hobbies and travel. I'm saying- WHY? How come? Really. Where can we cut expenses?
I'm not thinking these things because I like saying we're poor- I remind myself we're poor so we can one day do these things AND ENJOY THEM because we can afford them.
I hope by reminding myself and just putting it out there, it will help me stick to that commitment to save our money when it makes sense to (because it is difficult).
For now we relax in small ways, but one day we'll relax in bigger ways- we're talking about taking a cruise in a few years. That's something I'm lookin' forward too. I hope what I'll be saying when we do go is: Hey, we worked hard to get here and now we can ENJOY it.
Does that sound better?
To relax, I need to get out of town. If I'm at home, I feel the need to clean or do something productive.
Krit: I agree your not "poor". Your a two income family that makes a lot more money than most and you have a brand new car and a fairly new one and you have a house. We all just have different priorities on what we rather spend our money on. So don't be so down on yourself. But remember life is about the journey, not the destination. Have fun now. Otherwise you'll look back after 15 years have past and you might be regretful that you didn't do the things you could have done when you and your family were young and now your an old fart.
True enough SMB (not so funny). Where's the jokes? I though NLP was the serious one?
I have lightened up. But in my defense- we do do alot. Petting Zoo, Bday Parties, POSC outings, Baseball Games, Sporting Activities, etc etc. It is just more local type stuff. We (our family growing up) didn't do the big-time outings and so I don't miss them because I never did them. That and lil' one is getting better but is still a lil' difficult to enjoy taking places w/out stressing out too much. So I figure we'll enjoy all the typical stuff when that stuff can be better enjoyed (and when we can afford it- ha ha).
